03/01/1998 - Salute to the late Kenneth Rahming

A SALUTE

The Late Kenneth Rahming
Past President
Caribbean and Floridian Association, Inc.

Kenneth Rahming was held in high esteem by members of the community in which he lived during the final years of his life's journey. This journey started in Brooklyn, New York, when Manuel and Julia Rahming welcomed their son into the world.

After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, Ken was drafted into the U.S. Army. This was during the time of the Korean War, so Ken was soon with the troops in Korea. Ken received an honorable discharge and returned to New York.

Then came another phase in his life. Listening to Ken, it all seemed very exciting, though sometimes dangerous. He did various jobs over the years, finally ending up at the New York Transit Authority where he remained for 20 years, then retired. Like so many other snowbirds, he headed to Florida for some sunshine and palm trees, and to sit back and enjoy his retirement years.

Ken soon became a quit, but untiring voice, working toward improving the community in any was he could. Even during his years of illness, he continued to work for the causes in which he believed, serving through various organizations: Kissimmee Court/Orangewood Tenant Association, Osceola Children's Home, Kissimmee Rotary Club, Citrus Council Boy Scouts, Osceola Boys & Girls club, Affirmative Action, Kissimmee Police Community Advisory Board.

Ken became a member of the Caribbean and Floridian Association when it was still in its infancy. He remained a loyal, hard working member, actively involved in every project and very visible at every event, and eventually holding the position of President of C.A.F.A.

The members of C.A.F.A. wish to express thanks to Ken for his leadership, his unfailing belief in the vision, his guidance and support in keeping the vision alive.
